1. Research What You Buy Before You Buy It
Google whether or not the company is fair trade to determine if the products you are considering purchasing were manufactured in an ethical manner. An easy way to determine whether or not an apparel or footwear brand is free of slave labor is to download the Good On You: Ethical Brands application. This app is available on the App Store and Google Play. You can plug in companies’ names to see Good On You’s rating of how ethical they are or are not. You can also check out my article Top Fashion Brands Avoided by Slave-Free Shoppers to learn more.
2. Buy second hand.
Not only is buying second hand clothing good for the environment, but also means that people in slavery will not be manufacturing a new item for you.
3. Support ethical apparel and footwear brands.
Check out my list of slave-free apparel and footwear companies that work hard to ensure their employees are treated fairly and humanely. By creating a demand for products produced without slave labor, you encourage companies to be transparent with their supply chains and make a commitment to bettering the lives of their workers.
